    Lizi Ruch

    About the artist…

One of eight children, of Mary and Ralph Ruch, Lizi was born and grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. As a child Lizi loved animals and was always “horse crazy”. Some of her first drawings of such were discovered (much to her mother’s dismay) scratched with a safety p in on the Chippendale dining table. Deciding Lizi might have some artistic inclinations, her father started bringing home extra yellow legal pads and pencils from the office thus launching his daughter’s artistic career.

While working on a graduate degree Lizi taught art and served as department chair at Eastern High School in Louisville. After graduating with a MA in ceramic sculpture from the University of Louisville, she began to create work for showings in local galleries featuring animated and whimsical sculptural interpretations of local restaurants and residences in clay, many of which today are treasured b y their owners as part of estate heirlooms.

fter receiving a partial scholarship to study at Parson’s School of Design, Lizi moved to New York City where upon graduating with a BFA in fashion design, stared her own knitwear business. Her designs were sold throughout high end specialty sores from Neiman Marcus to Sak’s Fifth Avenue. Lizi has taught within the fashion design departments of both Parson’s and Otis Art Institute and currently works as a freelance consultant and instructor at FIDM.

As an artist, Lizi is still crazy about horses and animals and passionate about the sport of foxhunting. She rides with the Santa Fe Hunt and a member of West Hills Hunt, plenty of occasion to collect the inspiration for her current collections.
